The Murky Waters of Song Recording I
Hmm.
I had previously recorded the Led Zeppelin song 'The Rain Song', which consists of me on vocals, and acosutic guitar, basically playing a very sketchy version of the song. I had recorded it on a Monday evening, and it was really just that afternoon I had learnt how to play the song.
Yesterday, I had already recorded a full-blown guitars-and-vocal version of the song, yet being the perfectionist when it comes to recording songs, i decided to re-do the whole thing, and used a different recording technique.
I used my good-ol mini-mixer (which has four inputs) to plug my amp (to which my guitars were plugged in) and microphone and then the whole set-up waas hooked to my com. The recording technique I employed was fairly successful, but it relied on the volume of my amp to be fairly low in order for the sound to not distort.
Recording the guitars was fairly simple, but as usual, the mixing process would be the most tedious, requiring at least6 re-mixings of the two guitar tracks.
And the mother of all things to happen was that the com managed to hang at the point when I had finalised the track and all data was lost.
Fuming, I re-recorded all the guitar tracks and binded them together (most tediously again) and then saved the final rhythm track.
The vocals were fairly straightforward, though the mixing of the vocals and guitars was tricky, I managed to pull it off with 3 tries.
So, i am now the proud owner of my cover of Led Zeppelin's 'The Rain song', though i want to put in some bass and piano, but that'll have to wait when Chris and Alvin eventually come to my place.
I am just quivering with anticipation when Chris comes here tomorrow... I got so much to show that guy, i am almost numb with joy. That is, if he does managed to come here tomorrow and not be brought down by some unexpected situation.
I also pray that Charlotte will get through her final project/presentation all right. from her blog, i feel her agony from the whole thing.
Cheers,
Crawldaddy
