Gone To Penang Part Three
Hmm.
All I can say about Day three in Penang is that is was much more boring, despite the fact we were finally living in a new hotel. However, the main part of the day was work work work work, so I won't go into details, because it would bore the shit outta your system.
That said, yesterday was the first time I used rhino to create a 3D model and full rendering within one hour to the amazement and curiousity of the factory workers... it was a design for a frame to hold up and support a processor unit for the equipment.
The lead foreman was rather impressed, so was my dad and that was good.. finally my expertise is being put to good use.
Anyways, the fourth and final day in Penang heralded a feeling of hope and wish for freedom. Think about it, I was brought here against my will and why should I not yearn to not go home ASAP? I haven't used the internet for three days, and frankly that's pure hell.
Went back to the factory in the morning after a much better breakfast compared to the one I had back in Georgetown, in that 'Gran Hotel Continental'. At least the juice we drank didn't feel like it was stored in the hotel storeroom for 6 months before being finally unvealed upon an unsuspecting hotel guest.
Started work once more, and we managed to finish up the machine before lunch. It was the same as the day before: malay chap fan. Thing was we were accompanied by one of the factory foremen, went by the name of Jafar.. nice chap.
After lunch, we reassembled the machine for practising for the factory workmen... and then it went well for a while. However, a portion of the equipment, handled by another guy who is an outside vendor, malfunctioned by the time we finsihed practising with our equipment. Eventually, a call was made, and the poor bloke came down (on a Sunday, can you imagine??).. thing is, everything sort of went downhill in a bad way since the electrical short-out the day before and the moment he came in and fiddled around with the machine, there was a loud bang and a puff of smoke emitted from his machine.
Obviously, his little contraption is finished.
A quick conversation mainly involving my dad and the factory workers soon culmulated in us reaching the airport at 5:20pm. It was kinda funny when we went through the airport security, because I took a long time to strip myself free of my handphone, necklace, key pouch and miscellaneous items. Even the security lady siad 'but you're still gonna beep'.. and I walked through the metal detector to a silent reaction from both man and machine. hehehe.
A short meal before climbing aboard at 6:40pm soon involved me back where I was.. aboard a plane en route to a known destination.
As I sat on the plane, I reflected back on the trip, and here is a list of things I can use to describe my impression of Penang as I saw it:
1. It's a big-assed island, but the cabs are so used to the distance between places, they can quote a price right off the bat... all you have to do is bargain.
2. It's hot. Frickin hot. Damn fry-an-egg-on-the-frickin-dirty-sidewalk hot.
3. The shopping malls are a waste of time, except in the pirated DVD stores hehehe.
4. In Penang, you can walk down a ten-metre stretch of road, and experience an olfactory experience which involves a myriad of smells which assault the nose and range from gagging to retch-inducing. In fact, where ever you go in Penang, no place is devoid of a strong smell, and that's saying something.
5. Never stay in Grand Hotel Continental. Waste of time, money and effort. Just stay within 10 km on Bayan Lepas (aiport) and you're safe.
So there I sat on the aeroplane, and then comes the air stewardess and she serves me something which is of the same packaging that I received on my flight to Penang. Gazing suspiciously at the pack, I picked it up and opened it to find something different. Whew.
The pack had this pathetic little sticker which said that to contents had a satay favour. Frankly after eating it, I couldn't taste the satya, not comprehend what the heck it tasted like. It just tasted like what it was.. slightly spicy with bits of chicken and vegetables. Urgh.
Landed back in Singapore... smsed a few people and now I'm back.. I opened my msn and guess what.. I had 38 new emails but mostly junk. It's good to be back home.
Cheers,
Crawldaddy
