Lamenessness on national TV
Hmm.
I am starting to get very, very jaded and irritated by the 'Singapore Idol' advertisements. Serving as publicity for the potential 'idols', these adverts are simply taking the mickey out the idol contestants, while simultaneously causing non-idol watching Channel 5 viewers (like myself) to wince in discomfort.
I mean, taking a look at the Idol contest from a broader point of perspective, the main thing is to get there, show what you're made of, hope people will vote for and keep you in the show, and have a shot at getting a recording contract - a dream come true.
From my point of view, all I see are a group of (hopefully) talented people whose vocal quality(marginally, in most cases) and stage presence (actually, where got???) are being toned up, only to be torn down (in the eyes of fans etc) time and time again by these lame adverts which I cannot be bothered to remember or put into detail (also due to the amount of mental torture required to put it in proper lines).
Frankly, I'm sick of all this lame publicity, and mediocre production going into the Idol contest.
The American Idol show uses proper (and original-sounding) music tracks to allow the contestant to sing along well to. However, in our *highly original* and *proper sounding* backing tracks, all i can really hear is (yet again) mediocre musicianship which little or no passion going into the track.
I can almost say this without feeling I'm hurting Idol producers:
'YOUR (TOOT)ING BACKING TRACKS SOUND LIKE THEY'RE CREATED RIGHT OFF A CHEAP THAI-MADE KEYBOARD, IN ESSENCE, THEY SUCK.'
I can understand that the cost must be kept down, and profits up, but what you're doing is (just like what Char said on her blog) really driving real-time fans irritated, and fake-fans clamouring for more like dogs to a damn bone.
Also, the fact that the lamenessness derived from all this lame advertising is what really causes talented people to shun the Idol show.
For one and one simple reason only: 'It's just a publicity stunt'. And a cheap one at that.
They're (the producers) just masters at producing rubbish.
Cheers,
Crawldaddy
